

Marieke Schuurs, lyric sopranoMarieke recieved her Bachelor of Music and her Master of Fine Arts degrees at the University of California, Irvine. She trained with Ms. Ellen Faull, formerly of New York City Opera and with Barbara Conable (author of What Every Musician Needs to Know about the Body) and completed her training in Body Mapping as an Andover Educator in 2006. Marieke has performed classically with the Eugene Opera, Cascadia Concert Opera, Willamette Concert Opera and the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus. She has performed mainstage roles in Gianni Schicchi, il Trovatore, Orpheus in the Underworld, Pirates of Penzance, The Telephone, Susannah, The Marriage of Figaro and Die Fledermaus. She conducted the Girlchoir for Oregon Festival Childrens’ Choirs for two seasons and was Chorus Master for Eugene Opera for five seasons. She is a long standing member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She has adjudicated voice competitions for both the Oregon Music Educators Association (OMEA) and NATS. She is currently Managing Director for Cascadia Concert Opera, a non-profit, concert opera company based in the Pacific Northwest.

Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 12 noon - The Old Church in Portland, Oregon. Marieke brings a baroque ensemble to The Old Church for their unique weekly series. The program includes Bach, Copland, Mozart, Villa-Lobos and Rachmaninoff. Portions of this program will be performed at The Atrium in Eugene, Oregon, date and time TBA Summer 2010 - Cascadia Concert Opera kicks off it's official first season.
